Free Trees Available This Fall from Imagine Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa (Aug. 1, 2025) — This fall, Imagine Grinnell is offering free trees to residents in the 50112-zip code who have not previously received a tree through the program. The effort is part of Imagine Grinnell’s ongoing work to strengthen the local tree canopy, support environmental sustainability, and build a greener, healthier community.

Beginning August 4, residents in the 50112-zip code who have not previously received a free tree from Imagine Grinnell will be eligible to sign up for a free tree. The tree giveaway is part of Imagine Grinnell’s ongoing mission to enhance the local tree canopy, promote sustainability, and foster a healthier environment.

Trees available this year include a diverse selection of shade trees, lower growing trees, and conifers. The varieties include:
Fall Fiesta Sugar Maple, Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry, Eastern Redbud, Skyline Honeylocust, Chinkapin Oak, Autumn Gold Ginkgo, Princeton Elm, Espresso Kentucky Coffeetree, Hophornbeam, Wildfire Black Gum, Spring Snow Crabapple, White Pine, and Norway Spruce.

The Imagine Grinnell Tree Corps will again be available to assist with planting for those who need help.

For residents planting trees in the public right of way, the following steps must be taken before planting:
